Next Gen GOP Social Media Post Awarded at 2009 AAPC Convention

To all of those who read the gigantic piece I wrote on Successful Online Campaigning: A Focus on the 2008 Presidential Campaign, first of all, I salute you. The piece itself took a considerably long time to put together, but I believe it was worth the effort. Apparently, the American Association of Political consultants agrees- this paper was awarded a 2009 Pollie award for Best Use of Social Media.

Over the next few days, I’ll be posting some of the things I was able to learn from this convention, as there were many people in attendence who have worked in the field for some time, and I was able to get some great ideas for how to make these strategies work with our movement.  As I get the notes out of my suitcase and debrief from the event, there will be much more to look forward to in the coming weeks.

Some of the areas I was able to get good direction on look like they will be quite helpful-

  • The campaign directors for the Yes on Prop 8 in California spoke about how they were able to frame the debate to work  to the advantage of their core beliefs.
  • The internet campaign managers from Blue State Digital and Campaign Solutions (the groups that did the websites for McCain and Obama) spoke about how they were able to get people involved using the internet
  • There were also several other campaigns which used social media applicaitons like Facebook to get local area initiatives passed as well as promote candidates

There were many other things which also look promising, and I’ll be bringing those updates to you as soon as possible. But I definitely want to thank all of you who support this blog and made the award for social networking possible.
