After President Obama held a press conference to discuss his plans for dealing with the U.S. auto industry, two things were obvious on the Republican side. First, Congressional Republicans are deeply divided on the issue. Second, we were all caught completely off guard. These two factors led to party leaders not having a unified message [...]

A Few (New?) Thoughts
First of all let me say that I am extremely happy to have enough free time to continue writing on NextGenGOP. Many of you may not even know who I am since it has been several months since my last entry. You will be hearing from me weekly and I hope you are all as [...]
Better Communication Through Dissent(ers)
Editor’s note: We’re pleased to welcome Gideon D’Assandro to our team. Gideon begins his postings by taking a stab at what steps he thinks the Republican Party needs to do to get back on the right track. Importance of a Unified Message One of the most poignant talks I have ever seen a politician give [...]
Helping the Right Online, One PDF at a Time
Few Republicans doubt that online technology is the key to future success. And, thankfully, those few are highly unlikely to read this post. Lame jokes aside, the conversation and activity since November within the Republican Party and the conservative movement broadly has been inspiring. In an I-know-that’s-a-cliché-but-it-fits kind of way. But that conversation has been [...]
Geithner provides more reason to worry
U.S. Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner’s bout with foot-in-mouth disease continues. Now, apparently, he endorsed efforts to undermine the security of the United States by (inadvertedly, or otherwise) supporting the replacement of the U.S. dollar as the worldwide reserve currency with something new. Hats off to @AliAkbar for this find! The NRSC just released a new web ad entitled “Candidate Obama vs. President Obama” that, as Ali Akbar says, “is absolutely the best ad I’ve seen.” While I won’t go that far, it is absolutely a fantastic ad that needs to be sent to all of your friends [...]
How Far Has the Republican Party Come? Grading the GOP’s Progress Since November 4
Since their devastating defeat on November 4, Republicans have been working to rebuild and turn the tide of the past two cycles. They took major steps in doing so, including replacing RNC Chairman Mike Duncan with Michael Steele and becoming involved with national organizations such as Rebuild the Party that focus on a complete reformation [...]
Legalizing the College Reality
Although I go to one of the most traditionally conservative colleges in the nation, I live in a “fiercely libertarian” fraternity house, where Ron Paul has more of a messianic following than our dear POTUS. Although I am not in the libertarian camp myself, I believe that the Republican Party would be in better shape [...]
Arrogance, Incompetence, Greed
New Hampshire Democratic Congressman Paul Hodes attended a hearing Wednesday on the AIG bonus controversy wherein he claimed that for the American people, the acronym utilized by American International Group, AIG, stands for “arrogance, incompetence and greed“. However, such a description is rather more applicable to the current administration in Washington than the corporation said incompetents [...]
