The Error of Responsibility

In his first address to a joint session of Congress, President Obama once again showed his mastery of the teleprompter, his disregard for the importance of details, and his impressive ability to make obvious contradictions in between his rhetoric and reality insignificant. Apparently the “Era of Responsibility” involves Americans expanding the government’s list of responsibilities [...]

President Obama’s first address before a joint session of Congress

Like many Americans, I viewed on my computer President Obama’s speech Tuesday night before a joint session of Congress. As always, the president demonstrated his robust rhetorical skills. Nonetheless, I took issue with some parts of the address, and noticed that other parts really stood out from the rest. In the speech, the president attempted to justify the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, while also outlining additional priorities such as expanding the role of the central government in education and healthcare.

I have discovered that I am the ultimate political minority. To begin, I am part of a small subset of constituents who actually contact Congress. Then I am in a sliver of that small subset of angry constituents that is composed of voters below age 25.
I hope you are too. It’s good to think and [...]

Santelli’s Tea Party

When then President-Elect Obama gave his victory speech in Grant Park in Chicago on Election Night, he didn’t have the slightest idea that his first prominent adversary would start a “revolution” of sorts in the very same city. Instead of dying down after a few days, the fervor over the “rant of the year” [...]

Winning Back the Youth Vote: Is a “Hip-Hop” Makeover Part of the Answer?

Hats off to Future Majority, one of our counterparts on the other side of the aisle, for bringing my attention to this story.
In a Washington Times interview, newly elected RNC Chairman Michael Steele discussed his plan for winning back the youth vote, arguing that Republicans must apply their principles to “urban-suburban hip-hop settings.”  According to [...]

GOP Comeback Plan

I recently wrote a piece for my local school paper and I wanted to post it here too because I believe it summarizes a lot of the points we’ve brought up here on this site. While it isn’t comprehensive, I believe it works well as an introduction to the site and the purpose we’re [...]

I’m working with a professor in Management Information Systems at Carnegie Mellon University to potentially write and publish a paper looking at how the Internet is changing politics. My question to you is:  who do you think we should contact for this paper, and how should we go about getting in touch with them? Please [...]

President Obama visits Canada amidst trade fears

President Obama took his first trip abroad as #44 this week; he visited Canada. Apparently, the President’s past rhetoric has him in trouble once more, as reported in time for Friday’s edition of The Wall Street Journal. Fortunately, President Obama, who met with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper during this visit, clarified his previously inconsistent position [...]

RNC Tech Summit = Peer Production

Yesterday, I expressed concern about the fact that newly elected RNC Chairman Michael Steele has yet to make “any significant new effort to win over millennials.” Today, however, I want to recognize Steele for something he has done exceedingly well.  If you are a regular reader of this blog, you know I have on a [...]
