The Anonymous Smearing Must Stop

Although we here at NextGenGOP are not endorsing any candidate for RNC Chair, I felt that it was necessary to speak for a moment on the anonymous smears directed toward Saul Anuzis, one of the leading contenders in the RNC Chairmanship race. The attacks come from a blog called “Keep Mike Duncan as RNC Chairman.” The author makes the following statement and then expands upon it:

From what I can tell, Mr. Anzuis has a penchant for promoting himself more than he does the Michigan Republican Party.

True or not, the author has remained decidedly anonymous. Moreover, Eric Odom offers this screenshot showing that he tried to respond to the anonymous author in the comments, but the author is refusing to approve them. Saul himself responded in an interview with David All.

Update: James Richardson (@JamesRichardson) has done some investigative research that outs one Timothy M. Paskett of St. Paul, Minnesota as the owner of the “Keep Mike Duncan” blog.

Frankly, at least for the intentions of this blog post, I don’t care what the authors intentions are, nor do I care whether the assertions are true or false. (Though if you ask me, having “a penchant for promoting himself more than he does the … Republican Party” can be equally as accurately applied to a RNC Chairman who oversaw massive losses at a national scale in 2008 but is not willing to step down and give someone else the opportunity to take the wheel.) What I care about is the future of the Republican Party.

And no matter how you feel on this issue, this anonymous smearing must stop. We must rebuild the party, not divide and damage it. If you have your doubts about one of the candidates for RNC Chair, that’s fine, and you have every right to raise them – but at least have the cojones to tell us who you are.
