I have had a number of people e-mail or Facebook message me something along the lines of, “Well, the Dems may won, but they’re going to fail. All we need to do is sit back and wait.” James touched on this extremely well in his post earlier today, but I wanted to elaborate a bit more on why this attitude is not only wrong, but downright dangerous.
James hits the nail on the head when he says that, “we cannot allow the Democrats to capitalize on this momentum going forward.” In , Fred Barnes writes about how we are at risk for a “lurch to the left.” He points out the many forces acting against us: complete Democratic control of the U.S. federal government, the mainstream media, and a well-organized liberal movement.
This means the Democrats will be able to broadcast their message, whatever they choose it to be, at an unprecedented level. What if while we are sitting back, instead of “failing,” the Democrats are able to utilize this control to capitalize on their momentum and increase their electoral successes, as James describes in his post? Or worse, what if they are able to make redistribution of the wealth, and other extreme left agenda items, become acceptable in the eyes of Americans?
We cannot take this risk. It is entirely unacceptable for us to sit back and wait. If we want to get back on track, we cannot delay – we need to begin transforming the Republican Party now.
